The beginning of the maternity session is dark and moody: completely void of leaves, the bare trees are a dark chestnut brown; the sky is heavy with an ominous threat of more rain. Suddenly the setting sun bursts through the clouds and the heaviness of the day lifts.

We’re not just giving this Linus a spring maintenance check. This is the moment. The moment where this new family goes on their first bike ride together. The repair transforms the bike from a solo machine to a new hub that will shift how the Bizis move around the city.

For me, being a photographer is a way of interacting with the world. A way of processing what’s going on around me. Sitting with my Grannie at the hospital beside my dying Papa, photographing those moments allowed me to process the fact that he would not be there much longer.
