I love the behind the scene chaos of a wedding day. Eyeshadow of every colour spread across the table as the wedding party gets ready. Half empty slurpee cups everywhere to combat the warm June day. The way Wolseley the dog comes barreling into the room, excited to see so many humans he loves. The radiant smile on Katy's face as she puts her earrings on. Karl's puzzled expression as he googles how to tie a tie. I love the chaos behind the scenes of a wedding day, and I love that I get to be there for every moment of it.
Then suddenly it's time to start the ceremony, and everything slides into its ordered place. The video livestream starts. Michele opens the ceremony with a clever joke. Carter plays the piano cueing the wedding party to enter. Sean walks Wolseley down the aisle. Everything is going exactly as Karl and Katy planned it, and I get to document the polished side too. One of my biggest goals when I photograph a wedding is to document the feeling of being in attendance, of celebrating the love of two people, showing how communities come together to share this wedding tradition.
Excerpt from a speech from Karl's parents:
The vows you shared and the papers you signed today represent a contract, and like any good collective agreement it needs to be maintained and nurtured. Each year as you celebrate your anniversary, take a few minutes to review your collective agreement and determine if anything needs to be renegotiated. Take note of any grievances. And be sure to mention all the things that make you happy. Determine if there need to be any changes to your responsibilities. And define improvements to the benefits plan.
