Kristen welcomes me into the collective garden and I'm transported from the busy borough of Point-Saint-Charles in Montreal to a lush vegetable garden oasis. An important aspect of Kristen's mental health is her engagement with socio-political issues, and taking power over her food is one way to achieve food autonomy.

As I photograph Leh, she slowly moves around her garden with her green watering can, listening to the needs of each plant before carrying on. Seeing her body relax spending time surrounded by growing things, I can see how time spent in her garden is good for Leh's mental health.
